With the ever expanding 4G and 5G mobile coverage and proliferation of smart phones and tablets supporting 4G and 5G across the corporate world, comes a business-driven need to ensure quality coverage throughout indoor building office and work places. While every effort is made to ensure mobile tower coverage penetrates building blocks, frequently the coverage cannot keep up with dense urban environments due to the pace of building construction and new urban obstructions preventing a quality signal from reaching users. If the 4G/5G signal within a building is lacking, then steps can be taken to install indoor small cell repeaters such as those from Cel-Fi, or with the telco's expertise, deploy full in-building 4G/5Gcoverage. This is especially important in such buildings as hospitals, Universities and dense office buildings.

 

Proving such coverage holes across all the various points throughout a building is a challenge however and requires sophisticated and expensive telco-grade tools. For our 4G/5G indoor coverage surveys, Dynamic Wireless uses products providing thorough and advanced real-time measurement visualization of the mobile phone network, allowing you to maximise and optimise your network coverage. The products we use, support the measuring and monitoring of GSM, CDMA, EVDO, WCDMA, HSPA, HSPA+, and LTE/LTE cat. 9 networks. The coverage maps produced are similar to the Wi-Fi coverage maps provided by Netscout AirMagnet and Ekahau Survey software, but instead overlay a coloured route map for the measured 4G/5G signal strength on a floor plan. 

 

Some of the detailed metrics which can be graphed and overlaid on a floorplan include: 

 

  • RSRP - By Serving Cell Primary, First Strongest Cell Tower, to N+1 Strongest Cell Tower, Serving System and Band

  • RSRQ - By Serving Cell Primary, First Strongest Cell Tower, to N+1 Strongest Cell Tower, Serving System and Band

  • Throughout Measurements - IPERF, FTP, HTTP

  • Audio Quality and Video Quality streaming tests (POLQA, PESQ, PEVQ-S)

  • Extensive Application Testing - such as IPERF, FTP, HTTP, Browsing, YouTube and Facebook Testing, allowing for QoS and QoE testing

  • Voice Quality Measurements - based on the POLQA and PESQ algorithms both in uplink and downlink directions, providing Individual MOS scores

 

In addition, detailed and comprehensive radio interface metrics are recorded, which allow for QoS and QoE measurements and for conducting service quality benchmarking with competitor networks.
